2026 Young Talent Showcase

18th January 2026

3:00pm

Kuala Lumpur City Opera Studio

As the new year begins, we welcome it with renewed energy and fresh hopes. The Society is delighted to start the year by celebrating the youthful passion of our young members in the classical guitar community.

In any community, young people are essential for growth and continuity. The young guitarists presented today are among the most dedicated students in our community, having attained a high level of proficiency for their age. This showcase is not only a congratulation of their achievements, but also an encouragement for them to continue pursuing their musical journeys.

We would also like to acknowledge their teachers—Mr. Kueh Ming Wei, Mr. Fung Tong Sen, Mr. Alfred Phoon, and Mr. YS Tang—who have devoted their time and expertise to guiding today’s performers. It is our honour to present their students on stage as a testament to these teachers’ dedication to music education.

Your support of today’s Young Talent Showcase recital helps foster a stronger and more vibrant guitar community. We hope you enjoy the performances by these young guitarists, and we wish you a wonderful year ahead.

2026 'Legacy in Melodies' Guitar Recital

25th April 2026

8:00pm

Kuala Lumpur City Opera Studio

At the beginning of this year, the society held a Young Talent Showcase recital to highlight the importance of young musicians to our guitar community.

However, equally important are our veteran members who have worked tirelessly to promote the art and foster young students. Tonight, this recital aims to celebrate two such members.
Mr. YS Tang and Mr. Fung Tong Sen are well-known within the guitar community; notably, two of the young talents featured in our previous showcase are their students.
Mr. YS Tang has performed extensively, not only as a soloist but also in collaboration with performers from other disciplines. He has also worked with renowned organizations such as the Bachfest Malaysia Orchestra.

Mr. Fung Tong Sen is a former Assistant Secretary of our society. He has dedicated his life to teaching and has received recognition from ABRSM and Trinity College London. He also served as the head judge for the Malaysia Guitar Festival.

Over the years, both men have passed their knowledge, experience, and artistry to the next generation through both their teaching and their music—hence the title of tonight’s recital, ‘Legacy in Melodies.’
We hope these two gentlemen continue to inspire more people to pursue the mastery of the instrument we love so dearly, for many years to come.
